Kokoro Bowl
Why should you read my review? In 1988, a coworker and I needed a quick and healthy meal that was not too pricey. My coworker suggested Kokoro, a restaurant that had been open in Denver for a couple of years. 36 years later, it is still one of my favorite places to eat. So much so, at one point in my life I decided to move to that neighborhood in part because Kokoro and a few other of my favorite restaurants were in proximity. I worked in the restaurant industry for a time, come from a family of small business owners, and am an avid cook at home. It is with these years of knowledge and experience that I can write this review with confidence. Why Kokoro? Kokoro is one of a few restaurants with such tenure in the Denver market where I have experienced such a high rate of consistency of service, product, and value. When Kokoro was new, the simple and elegant healthy fare they offered was a forward thinking and exciting new concept for an American market. Denver took to it quickly and well. The lovely family that started and still owns the restaurant takes a remarkable pride in their restaurant and the service they provide to their customers. This is most present in the staff and business culture that Kokoro actively cultivates. There are members of staff that have worked there for double digit years, which says something quite positive for a restaurant. In the early years, from time to time, I would visit in the mid afternoon and find myself eating something similar to the owner who quietly sat next to me. That is pride in your business. Food, a powerful four-letter word at Kokoro. I began with a Super Beef Bowl in the early years and it is still a staple for me when visiting. It is a great place to start for someone that is new to this type of Japanese cuisine. Yet the menu always encouraged me to try something new. I can say that I have probably eaten every offering on the menu through its restaurant's growth and evolution. The most impressive quality to Kokoro is that every menu item is prepared with the same high-quality standards and pride. This is a feat that many restaurants struggle to manage or achieve. You might be able to find another type of restaurant like Kokoro in Denver, but you will not find a better one. By CleverSort
